New Pegasus CEO Outlines Mobile,
Global Expansion Goals
BY MICHAEL B. BAKER
MOBILE BOOKINGS and growth in
India and China will be top priorities
for Pegasus Solutions under new CEO
David Millili, he said last month.
The hotel industry technology firm
last month announced Millili, formerly
the company’s chief web officer, as its
new CEO. He formally joined Pegasus last year when the firm acquired
Open Hospitality, his hospitality web
marketing company. Open Hospitality since 2005 had been a partner to
Pegasus. Former Pegasus CEO Mike
Kistner is leaving the company for undisclosed reasons.
Facilitating mobile bookings will be
a primary area of Pegasus’ focus, said
Millili. Mobile bookings for many hotels account for as much as 20 percent
of online direct booking, particularly
from tablet devices.
“Hoteliers are looking for bookings,
and however you can drive that to the
hotel, they want partners who can help
them do that,” Millili said. “The fewer
people they can work with, the better it
is for the hoteliers.”
Millili said he expected mobile book-
ings would grow in both the corpo-
rate and leisure travel arenas and that
smartphones would become more inte-
grated to the overall hotel experience—
with guests using them for checking in
or even as room keys, for example.
“The days will go away where the guy
next to you on the plane has an iPhone
and a BlackBerry just because the
BlackBerry was issued by the corpora-
tion,” he said. “You’ll see more of the
touchscreen both on the personal and
the corporate side.”
Millili said he also hoped to ex-
pand Pegasus into markets “where we
PEGASUS’ DAVID MILLILI
aren’t as heavily populated with our
products and services,” namely China,
India and Brazil. Specifically, this will
entail working more closely with Chi-
na’s TravelSky distribution system and
building more global distribution sys-
tem connectivity for hotels in India that
currently have no such ties.
